Welcome to the May edition of ‘The Class of 64.’
For those of you that missed our All 60’s Cruise & U Choose held at Mornington Racecourse, 27th April – what a great event it was! Despite numbers being down due to the inclement weather (they were still predicting hail as we drove down the freeway), we had 39 vehicles in attendance. Other than a predominant number of EH’s, there was a number of different makes represented - along with representatives from the 60’s to 80’s Holden Enthusiasts Club, as well as the Early Falcon Club.I would like to take this opportunity to again thank Jenny & Joe for all of their hard work in organising the event, as well as all of the EHCCV members who assisted on the day. And again, I would reiterate that this event represented more than just another fund-raising opportunity for the club – the friendships and enthusiasm offered by other clubs on the day was indicative of what our club is all about – to participate, promote and encourage and organise with other like organisations meetings, social outings and events. We had a number of new members sign up on the day, as well as a healthy response to our upcoming Rock and Roll Night. A beautiful XM Falcon Ute owned by Frank from the Early Falcon Club took out ‘Top Vehicle Overall’ – resplendent in dark green with ghost flames down the sides. The trophies, for anyone who missed them at the event or the last meeting, were sensational! Trophy winners received a framed photo of their vehicle – next to a 50’s style LP.

Speaking of the 50’s – this is the last reminder (aside from the mail-out that everyone should have received within the last week) of the Rock and Roll Night, featuring 50’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Band, the ‘Fenderbenders.’ Held on Saturday, May 24th, the evening promises to be one of fun and frivolity, with a full Rock N’ Roll dress code! We have sold nearly 50 tickets already – so contact Jenny for your tickets now!

And finally, correspondence received from Neil from the EH Car Club of WA indicates that the Run headquarters will only be holding the resort exclusively for Run attendees until the end of May 2008, and that the Sandy Bay caravan park is booked out already, and that Amblin caravan park only has camp sites left – so if you are still thinking about attending the next All State, time is running out to book your accommodation! Also if you haven’t done so yet please contact Neil to pay your deposit.

Yours in cruising, Andrew EHCCV Vice-President

Last Run. On Sunday morning Sonya and I reluctantly got up (way too early on a Sunday with no swap meets involved… heh heh) to brave the frigid weather that greeted us at the front door. We had to be at the racecourse early (7:00am-ish) to assist with setting up, so I think it was around 5:45am when we left home.As I mentioned previously in the Vice-President’s Report, they were predicting hail on the radio as we drove down the freeway – not a good omen! It then started to rain and things weren’t looking good. By the time we reached Frankston and fuelled up, and the weather, although overcast, started to clear up a little. We finally reached the racecourse in Mornington, where the weather wasn’t too bad at all (although still freezing!). Lucky I was wearing my new EHCCV fleecy top…Mick Warne, Linda, John and the Galati’s (along with a few others) were already there. I set up my laptop and printer (ready to tally the votes) and set about helping to set up, direct traffic, as well as take photos of all the cars as they arrived. We had a strong showing from the 60’s to 80’s Enthusiasts Club, with at least 6 of their cars in attendance. The Early Falcon Club also had a couple of cars there – including this impressive XM Ute, and a wicked looking woody wagon. Frank, the owner of the Ute, explained to me that he had a real passion for hot-rodding skulls, a theme that was consistent throughout his Ute.By the time 2:30 pm rolled around, I had been flat out taking photos (and tallying votes) in preparation for the trophy presentation.

Jenny had kept the trophies secret prior to the day – and you should have seen people’s faces when they were presented with a framed picture of their own vehicle! It’s something that worked very well on the day (despite the work involved), and is something that hopefully the next EHCCV committee will consider for our own display day at Albert Park Lake. Again, a very big thank-you to everyone involved or who participated in order for this day to be a success – including our sponsors! Joe, Jenny and I attended the 60’s to 80’s Holden Enthusiasts meeting on Monday night, and they expressed their interest in participating as a club next time the event rolls around. What a great event – and it can only get bigger and better!Cheers Andrew
(EHCCV Vice- President) Thank-you to all our members that helped on the day.

Club Promotions. A few months ago I was asked by the Knox City Council if I would be interested in having my picture taken for an upcoming exhibition in Boronia. I agreed and a month later I was cleaning my car up to have a photo shoot down at the local shops in Boronia. The exhibition was designed to show off Car Clubs in the local area. The alley way in which these pics are displayed in light boxes are designed to promote car clubs and the recent Knox Cruise nights which the Southern Street Machiner’s hold. There was an official opening by the Mayor. The light boxes are also a new attraction to the “Fresh New Look” of Boronia Shopping Centre. The car club displays will be on show until 23rd July, and then a new exhibition will replace these. As they are light boxes they are best viewed at night, the full impact of the pictures are amazing. If you managed to get along to a Knox Cruise night you might even be in the cruise night photo boxes. And if you do happen to go down to have a look during the day time, then make sure you stop into say g’day to one of the clubs sponsors Tony at Summit Auto. Tony actually dobbed me into the local council to be photographed!! Thanks Tony
